The NSW Government is improving accessibility at Junee Station with an upgrade to amenities through the Transport Access Program.
The program is an initiative to provide a better experience for public transport customers by delivering modern, safe and accessible infrastructure. As part of the program, the Junee Station upgrade will provide residents and users of the facilities a station that is accessible to those with a disability, limited mobility, carers/parents with prams and customers with luggage.
The project is expected to be completed in mid 2022 and is designed to provide a number of key benefits, including, improving the station forecourt with the creation of a formalised bus/coach stop and kiss and ride bay on Railway Square. Upgrade existing accessible parking spaces, paths, curbs and ramps around the station entrance as well as repairing and restoring heritage aspects of the station building including doors and flooring.
The washroom facilities won’t be missed with work to be completed on accessible bathrooms and adding an ambulant toilet to both male and female bathrooms. The platform will see resurfacing and a boarding assistance zone will be created. Since receiving planning approval in September 2021, the construction contract for the Junee Station Upgrade has been awarded to local construction company Joss Group.
Joss Group is delivering the upgrade on behalf of Transport for NSW. Construction activities began on November 23 and will be completed within six months. Initial work will include site establishment, set-up of temporary facilities, and demolition work.
Work will be carried out seven days a week from 7am to 6pm, in line with the NSW Government’s COVID-19 extended construction hours rules. These rules allow worksites to support social distancing and the health and wellbeing of workers
