Junee Lighthorsemen Will Be Remembered @ Reconnect Museum Weekend

At the Junee Broadway Museum Reconnect weekend, a celebration of the Light Horsemen will be held on March 4 at the event.

The next morning, Junee RSL are holding a commemorative service of the Light Horse from 11am at the Junee Cenotaph. Simon Broad of Riverina Light Horse wanted to lay a few wreaths while they were there to commemorate those in Junee.

“We’re frantically going through, all the records to try and get all their names. We have about 46 at this stage. If anyone has any information that could help us, we would appreciate it.”

Part of the commemoration will be the handover of the letter of all the names on the Light Horse statue being erected in Wagga, to the President of the Riverina Light Horse Trip.

“I thought we’d do something official out the front at the Cenotaph. Greg [Zakharoff, Junee RSL President] is going to hand it over and we’ll lay a wreath in memory of them.

“This is also a public call for anyone that’s got any information on these guys, if you have a look at many cenotaphs and most war memorials, there’s a lot of errors in them because their documentation over the years has not been that good.

“We’re calling for anyone that’s got any information, because there might be someone we’ve missed.” The statue is set to be erected in August.

The Riverina is proud of their history with the Light Horse with Harden-Murrumburrah already having their own memorial statue “Bill the Bastard” which was the inspiration for Wagga’s.
