BREAKING NEWS EXCLUSIVE: Disaster Crash on Rockview Crossing

At approx. 9am this morning at the Rockview Road Railway Crossing, a train has made contact with a truck with emergency services quickly attending the scene.

Both sides of Canola Way were closed off following the accident.

Old Junee RFS Captain Robert Turner gave an interview to the Independent to provide information to the community.

He said, “It appears a semi, with a dog trailer has come through the crossing. The train has hit the dog trailer. The driver and cabin crew are okay but the dog trailer is what was hit. There are twelve carriages off the track, the tracks ripped up, all the carriages are empty thankfully.

“Its an enormous mess, there are fifteen vehicles now with emergency lights going off.

“This is the eighth accident in 18 months here, I’ve been onto Council, they’ve looking to improve it and there’s more new signage, but people are not stopping.

“I don’t know why people don’t slow down and stop, there’s plenty of signage.

“Council employed an independent audit to access the crossing, he has made a number of recommendations and Council are going to adopt those. It has been looked into; they are onto it but it’s still happening.”

A number of casualties have resulted from the crossing recently.

“Me and my wife were about 4 or 5 kms away and we heard something that sounded like a train tipping over and I was right.

“Everybody is okay, the train driver is okay, the truck driver is okay. He is beat up.

“There are five carriages in front of me in a twisted mess and the track has gone to shreds. Luckily the carriages are all empty.

“The track is all over the shop.”

If you are using the crossing, always stop beforehand and look both ways to ensure a safe passage through.
