Memorial Park Playground Swinging Along Nicely

Junee’s Memorial Park playground is being completely rebuilt after being redesigned with community input, with construction hopefully to be completed in time for Christmas Holidays.

The playground is based off Locomotive 4401 after a community survey which chose that design.

The redevelopment of the previous decades-old playground was made possible thanks to a $733,600 grant, through the State Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.

Project Manager, Jonty Bruce, gave us an update on the park.

“Progress is on track and we are still aiming to have the playground opened before Christmas, however we are relying heavily on good weather conditions and the arrival of some other materials,” he said.

“Everything is on track and people will be able to see that all the play equipment has been installed and the next stage of the project is primarily around the installation of the shade sails, then some surfacing work and then we move into our outdoor dining space.

“It’s a very rewarding experience from my point, particularly knowing the amount of community consultation that we have done and we know that a lot of the elements in the park are only there because of the voice of the community.

There are things that may not have been considered if we hadn’t have gone to that consultation and heard from our kids in classrooms through our online survey and our social media experiences.”

Jonty said it was a rewarding experience to see this get to this point.

“It’s really rewarding to see some of the specific comments that were made have reflected and started to take place.

“Over the next few weeks, the footpaths are going to be concreted throughout Memorial Park, so there will be some impacts to the access of the park over the next few weeks while that work takes place.

“It will be good to have nice concreted paths and good access to our entire park and its facilities as part of the project.”
