Junee IGA Spread Christmas Cheer With Roundhouse Donation

Back during Christmas time last year, Junee IGA wanted to bring a little Christmas cheer to the Roundhouse Museum presenting them with a community chest check of $1,481. This will help them in restoring one of the old carriages which they are currently preparing to repaint and utilise as part of the already amazing location.

Junee Jokers Bowling Club also received $1,000 to help install yellow poles to help visitors and locals navigate the greens easier.

Gail Commens explained what the Roundhouse will be doing with the generous donation.

“It’s the old red rattler but it’s been re-painted green. We originally bought it to turn it into a cafe.

“Unfortunately, when we got it there and paid a fortune to get the footings and everything for it, we were told we weren’t allowed to put a cafe there because it was too close to a main railway line.

“Now we have to think of a new use for it and there’s a lot of work to be done to it as well. It needs a new roof and new paint.

“Currently they are considering turning it into an exhibition area.

“We are thinking that maybe for three or four months of the year we will have a display on some-thing specific.

“The first one we do would have to be rail orientated and then we could put in an artist in residence or something for a few months or some Indigenous art, something that is continually changing.

“Before we can do anything we have got to be able to do it up to make it “liveable” so to speak as it needs a lot of work.

“When we applied for funding it was to help towards the restoration of the old red rattler.

“We were thrilled when we found out they were awarding the money.

“Even better is the Co-Op is going to be 100 this year and we opened the Museum in 1995, so we have a birthday this year as well which ties in really well.”

Locals helping locals is always great to see.
