Roundhouse Christmas Party 2024.
Volunteers were treated to a very nice lunch at the Junee Services Club as we held our final committee meeting of the year. Twenty-eight members were present and Secretary, Gail Commens once again tested our skill and endeavour with her never ending supply of interesting activities. Well done Bevan Hackett and Lachlan McNamara for winning prizes.
Vince Hollis thanked everyone who in some way contributed to the running of the Roundhouse Museum this past year. Many volunteers only see each other at this time so there was some catching up to do. Get well messages were extended to volunteers Trevor Follett and Estella Hyde who were unable to attend. We wish them both a speedy recovery.

Out-of-towners from Wagga Wagga, Cootamundra, Coolamon and Bundanoon enjoyed their annual catch up. However, one was reminded, as a glance around the table showed that our volunteers are an aging bunch.
Doing a quick calculation it was estimated that our average age is roughly 75 and in the near future there is a real need for an infusion of youth. Even one day a month would make quite a difference.
As 2024 comes to its end we will gear up for a celebration of the birth of the museum which officially began in 1995.

We are hopeful that we can celebrate the thirty years in grand style; more to come on this in the New Year.
Sadly several of our members passed away this year and we mourn their passing.
I have enjoyed very much being given the opportunity to write some of the stories of life ‘on the rail-ways’. It has been great privilege to be given such trust and I am very grateful for the opportunity.

Amongst the many books I packed for our move to Bundanoon I found a little gem which my Mother had been given. The last entry in the book was from a 92 year old who was asked to comment on life and she said: “I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn.”
I too look forward to continuing to learn with more railway stories in 2025.

During the previous week it was great to meet the Junee Independent News Crew and enjoy dinner and the company of other contributors; such a valu-ble community contribution in many ways.
May I wish everyone a very happy Christmas and all the best for 2025. My thanks to my partner, Ian Gray for his support and patience and the photography work he does for the Roundhouse Museum.
