On May 12 the team who organised the Biggest Morning Tea at the Uniting Church Hall were able to raise $500 for cancer research as part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. From all accounts, it was a gorgeous spread and a wonderful afternoon.
Annette Turk of the Uniting Church Hall said it was a really successful morning.
“We made it as a town thing and invited everyone, as many as you can, and we ended up with about 40 people of all ages, all different people. It was so good. And quite a number actually brought beautiful cakes or slices and we ended up with a magnificent food table,” she said.
“The food was delicious. It was absolutely wonderful. We had some trivia quiz questions, which were real fun things and gave people awards just for answering trivia quiz.
“We had said to people to make it a gold coin donation as it’s for Cancer Council. I expected probably a dollar from each or two, and we ended up with $500. I was absolutely amazed.
“The money goes towards cancer research. Once a year they have the Biggest Morning Tea Australia wide. It used to all be on the same day, right around Australia, but now we do it the day that suits us. It’s always in May and it just all goes to cancer research and people with cancer so it’s a great benefit to them all. “
It was a win-win situation because it gives the community something to do for the day and it also raises money for a good cause.
“It was really a lovely time. It was such a pleasure to do. We were really blessed. It was a great benefit day and it was actually a nice warm day, too, but it was lovely in the hall, we were in the Uniting Church Hall, which has all the facilities we needed.
“The Hall has received a couple of upgrades. They’ve polished all the floor, a beautiful wooden floor, and redone a lot of the ceiling, but it’s an even more beautiful building now. It also has two disabled toilets too. There’s a stage in the hall and it’s only a few stairs up to the big kitchen, so there’s everything you need. It’s a beautiful hall for functions.”
