The most recent edition of Junee Can Assists Ladies Long Lunch on Sunday raised $16,000, making it a total of $42,000 that all Ladies Long Lunches have raised for the Junee township.
This years event was at the Junee Showgrounds and offered delicious food alongside entertainment and guest speakers.
Alicia White has been a driving force behind the event and said around 100 ladies took part this weekend. “We had 100 ladies attend this year’s event. Everyone enjoyed the warm atmosphere and music by Aaron Oldaker. Marrar Kitchen did another amazing job of providing the food for the lunch.
“Everyone was truly touched by the guest speakers, the four young ladies, which was Heidi White, Harriet Corbett, Sienna Riley, and Jemima Brady. They spoke from their hearts and there were a few tears shed in the audience and it was just lovely to hear them. They’ve grown up together at school and they share a special bond through their experiences with health challenges in their families.
“Annette St. Clair shared her story of personal loss, highlighting the vital role of family, friends, and community.
“It’s so beautiful to hear how she continues to support the Riverina community through the Amie St. Claire Trust, which is part of the Melanoma Institute of Australia.
“I’m in awe of the kindness and support of the Junee community and afar for raising $16,000. A big thank you to our major sponsor, which was Advanced Roofing and Plumbing for supporting us once again.
“My favourite part of the day was when I had a quiet moment to take it all in and I looked around and I could see the smiling faces, the laughter and the incredible sense of community. I’m so proud to be part of Junee. This event is my way of giving back to a supportive charity and to the friends and families who make this town so special.”
President of Junee CanAssist, Fiona Rhynehart, said it was an amazing afternoon. “It was just beautiful. Alicia had organised so many prizes and raffles. It was incredible, absolutely incredible. I was so fortunate that my daughter-in-law is a winemaker for Calabria in Griffith and donated some wine to us.
“The ladies thought it was very good, but it was a great afternoon. “The weather wasn’t spectacular, but that didn’t matter. We were up in the pavilion up at the showground and we had two big heaters going. We had the little van that does the bar from Wagga. We had Aaron Oldaker playing live music which was just absolutely fantastic.
“Alicia organised four young girls from Junee to talk about what it’s like in their household with their mothers having some form of cancer.
“The young girls were just amazing and then Annette St Clair from the Amie St. Clair Foundation in Wagga spoke on what it was like when her daughter had a melanoma and what she went through and how she went as a carer. It was just inspiring, absolutely inspiring.
“That’s what we do as Can Assist, we raise money and keep it local.”
