Taking over from Brad’s Butcher on 136 Broadway Street, Junee Quality Meats has some shoes to fill, but owner Matt Deaton is more than ready for the task.
Deaton said, “I’ve only just purchased the butcher shop about three months ago. I’ve moved away from boxed meat and I’m trying to do bodies (break your beef), so it’s better quality meat. I’m trying to keep everything the same, like the sausages and all that sort of stuff, as the locals seem to like the way it is.
“I’m keeping things the same as what itwas so there’s not as much interruption with people, there’s more flow type of thing.
“We are starting to do deliveries into Wagga on Wednesdays now. Other than that, I don’t think too much has changed. It seems to be working out at the moment, but it’s only early days.
“I’ve got to work out the ups and downs of business. It’s the first time I’ve owned a shop myself.
“I’ve been getting a lot of positive comments from locals and I have been trying to keep them happy and keep everything the same.
“I’ve got new meat packs that are better value. I’m trying to look after the local community and I can only do that by breaking bodies, breaking the beef up and getting it in ourselves because it’s a little bit cheaper and the meat is fresher.
“It’s a nice, friendly little town. You walk past people and everyone’s pretty quick to say hello. I’m enjoying it. It’s nice, it’s a lot quieter than Goulburn where I came from.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their support at the moment and I hope everyone’s enjoying the meat.”
