Junee Netball Club has seen some decent results in their 2025 season across all grades, but still look on what has been a very successful season with plenty of sponsors, victories and players going to representative sides.
Robert Vergano spoke to the Junee Independent about the season so far and what we can expect from the rest of it. “It has been a good season so far, we’ve got about five games left,” he said.
“Coming to the tail end of the season we’ve got some of our teams that are looking pretty strong to be making semi-finals this year. A total of six teams, one net set go team, which is our Under 10’s and below. We’ve also got a 12s, 14s, and intermediates, which is 16 to 18 age group, and then we’ve got two opens teams in the competition, a C grade and a B grade.
“We’ve got plenty of returning players from last season and we’ve been fortunate enough to pick up some new players to the club this year as well, which is a welcome asset to us.
“The fact that we’re tracking well to be making the semifinals is one of our highlights. We’ve seen a few of our players selectedinto representative teams throughout the year to play representative netball up in Sydney at the state carnival, so that’s been good.
“The last round of the season will be the 30th of August, and then we go into semifinals.
“Our presentation day will be the 18th of October.
“Upcoming, on the 25th of August, we’re having a club training day and a Father’s Day barbecue. I think we will also have a novelty game of fathers versus their daughters on the court there at Junee Rec Centre.
“One of our highlights has been that we have committed to Junee Recreation and Aquatic Centre for training this year.
“We have got a very good relationship with the Rec Centre and it’s a great facility for usto train at, especially being that there is an indoor court. There’s no excuses not to train.
“Our intermediate team are looking like they will make the semi-finals this year. They’re tracking really well. “Our B grade team is sitting third on the ladder at the moment. It looks like we are going to have a couple of our teams hit the semis.
“And our Under 12s team is sitting fourth at the moment. So we’ve got three teams sitting in the top four at the moment. We’ve got five more competition games to go. So they’re tracking really well as we lead in to the semis.
“We’ve got some good numbers. We’ve got six teams playing in the comp this year. It’s really good that every year we’re having a Net Set Go team, because that’s building the foundational skills for our girls in the years to come.
“Across the Club we’ve got five of our coaches who are actual players in the club as well. So we’re seeing a lot of our senior club players actually coaching our younger girls and mentoring them through the teams. That is a highlight as well that our girls that have been playing with the club and some of them are very talented netballers that are actually giving back to the netball, to the sport, basically by coaching our younger teams, our Under 10s, Under 12s and our Under 14’s. That’s probably one of our biggest highlights is them giving back to the game.
“A lot of them are still at school and only very young, so it’s good to see them doing that.”
