On Tuesday, August 5, 025, the Junee Seniors hosted a Grant Acknowledgement Luncheon to say thank you to a few of the organisations that have provided funding for the Senior Citizens Hall during their recent renovations.
Representatives from GrainCorp, along with a few from the Junee Ex-Services Memorial Club (including General Manager Rebecca Jordan), attended the lunch. A number of grant writers were also present.
Secretary of the Senior Citizens Club, Trish Davies, said the Junee Seniors are extremely thankful for the funding that both GrainCorp and the Junee Ex-Services Memorial Club have provided the organisation.
“Their investment in our not-for-profit community organisation allows us to continue to improve the facilities in our hall, making it a more welcoming and usable environment for both our members and other local community groups that hire the hall for their own meetings and activities now and into the future,” she said.
“This luncheon is just a small token of appreciation, and public acknowledgement, of both GrainCorp’s and the Junee Ex-Services Club’s support for various small, but vital, projects that are helping to bring the Junee Seniors into the 21st Century.
“Thanks to the meaty donation of $10,000 through GrainCorp’s Community Fund Grant, the Junee Seniors were able to:
– Develop their website
– Establish a social media presence
– Have a logo designed, along with a Branding Guidelines document
– Purchase a modern, wall-mounted First Aid Kit and Automatic Defibrillator
– Purchase additional fire extinguishers and fire blankets
– Purchase new, modern cleaning equipment, including a wet/dry vacuum cleaner, a cordless stick vacuum cleaner, and a cordless leaf blower
– Accessories to improve raffle and fundraising activities (including folding table and chairs, secure cash box, marketing sign holders, internet wi-fi hotspot for use with the portable EFTPOS terminal, plus cables and a charger for the EFTPOS Terminal and internet access hotspot.
Combining that with a $500 grant through Club Grants Category 1 via the Junee Ex-Services Memorial Club, the Junee Seniors were able to purchase a commercial-grade storage cabinet for use in their new uni-sex accessible toilet and to have a custom table built by the Junee Men’s Shed for use in the Junee Senior Citizens’ Hall. The Junee Ex-Services Memorial Club donated a further $2,100, through the 2024 Club Grants Category 1 and 2 round, enabling them to expand the secure storage facilities within the Junee Seniors’ Hall to store our new commercial-grade crockery, cutlery and glassware.
Spokesperson for the Junee Seniors Club, Barbara Guthrie, told the Junee Independent the lunch went really well.
“Junee councillors were unable to come because they had sicknesses and other commitments. Inland Rail sent in an apology. They had no one available to come.
“Kyle Docherty from GrainCorp was very interesting with his speeches and what they offer. He told us what was out there in grants and how they helped people, and also, he did an interview with our secretary, Trish Davies, and they’re going to make a video of the grant funding in Junee Senior Citizens Hall. “We had a nice buffet-style lunch with salads and cold meats and hot food, hot chicken, hot pies. We wanted to give back to those people who have all given us donations, and we’re very grateful for that.
“We have to run raffles as that is our only source of income to pay for all our expenses, so these other people have been coming on board and giving donations towards us to help us out. “We appreciate all these grants over the last years. The first one started in 2022, and we’ve been having them right up till last year. We’ve been able to refurbish our hall, and it’s a great big thank you to them, and we greatly appreciate the grants that we receive from all. “It was a really nice day. Everyone mixed and chatted, and it was lovely to have them all there and follow up with lunch.“Our hall is looking great now, we have all new cupboards, all new tables and chairs, and the security cameras. If it weren’t for the grants, that would never have happened.
“The hall was in a very bad state, and the grants put it back to a nice, beautiful hall. “We’ve got our AGM coming up on September 2 at 1.30pm, and it will be followed by an ordinary meeting straight afterwards. Afternoon tea is provided.
“We also have a Father’s Day raffle going for the Senior Citizens. It will be drawn on the 4th of September, and the first prize is $100 IGA voucher, the second prize is a $50 IGA voucher.
“The AGM will include an afternoon tea (the Seniors Club asks that you please bring along a plate of goodies to share).
Financial members are eligible to nominate and vote for candidates. Nominations closed on Monday, 25th August.
