The Junee Cricket Association AGM was held on August 25 at the Commercial Hotel, with Will McGrath taking up the President role once again. Joining him will be Vice-President Ean Martin and Secretary/Treasurer Trent Charlton.
The side is looking to break into the A-grade competition to face off against Temora, Cootamundra, Stockinbingal and Grenfell. Trent Charlton has been selected as Captain coach once again, looking for a big year. Will McGrath said that he is looking forward to his second year as President and hopes to see new faces join as volunteers or players going forward.
“I had a successful first year and am hoping to continue that into this coming season,” he said. “We are hoping to continue to build on the success of last year, so our first year back as a club. We had a couple of years off where we weren’t able to get players. Last year, we were able to sustain a group of men to compete, we were able to become minor premiers, as well as make the grand final. Unfortunately, we didn’t win the premiership, but it was a good building block and laid the foundations in place to hopefully continue into this season. Getting moved into A-grade as well this year, so it’ll be tougher competition, which I think will be a good thing for us.
“We’ve got Trent as Secretary and Treasurer, and Ean as Vice President, both of them come from a wealth of knowledge and experience through cricket and holding positions in other clubs in the communities. Both of them are good people to have helping me out, as well as getting well-known within the community.
“The season starts on the 11th October, about a month away now, so it’s coming fast. “We start pre-season this week, so we will get the boys together, start putting some things in place and come together as a club. Footy is still going, so a few of the boys are still preoccupied with the finals for that, but once that’s over, we will be in full swing for the cricket season. “We are always open for voices and new faces to come into the club and give their opinion. We want to be as transparent as possible. If they are voicing their opinion, that opens our eyes to what the community wants as well, so we can start giving back on a community level.
“My number is on our Facebook page. Messaging our Facebook page is probably the easiest way. If not, we do play at home most Saturdays, so that will also be a good opportunity to come see the team and see what we are about.
“We are looking forward to the upcoming season, and if anyone’s still keen to play, follow our socials. Our training will be posted on there, where and when, and there’s the registration link as well.”
