Greg Zakharoff gave us an update on how Remembrance Day planning is going. “I’m hopeful it’ll be a nice day and something there for people to remember. As I said, it’s gonna be quick and sharp, straight to the point,” he said.

“Our guest speaker [Dr. Kathryn Spurling] is having an open forum at the [Ex-Services] club on the evening of the 11th to talk about anything to do with military history.

“If there’s people in the district who want to find out anything or think that she may be able to answer some questions that they may have, by all means, come down and ask, that’s what she’s there for.

“If she doesn’t know the answer, she won’t give you a furphy, she’ll go and actually research it and come back with a written answer. She’s very good like that.

“She was on the veteran’s review board in Canberra. “RSLs in New South Wales, they don’t necessarily generate membership fees anymore so the clubs have to fund themselves and have to find ways to keep the good work going.

“So we have we had a bit of a think about it and one of the guys asked why don’t we approach Bunnings and see.

“That’s what it’s all about, to raise some funds so we can get things going. Even to run a computer is expensive these days.” It’s always important that a local RSL is well supported by the community.
