Governor Margaret Beazley will be visiting Junee with her husband Dennis.
NSW Governor the Honourable Margaret Beazley and her husband Dennis Wilson have announced they will be visiting the Riverina this coming week, including a visit to Junee this Friday.
A vice regal reception will be held at the Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory on Friday, 28th February which will be attended by both Margaret and Dennis along with various community organisations. They will also be touring the Broadway Museum in a visit Junee Shire Council are excited for. Council said it’s great to see her take an interest in the Junee Community. The state governor represents King Charles who performs ceremonial roles and oversees the workings of the elected government.

The role of Governor has changed greatly over the years. The Governor today has an important constitutional, ceremonial and community role in New SouthWales. In respect of constitutional matters, the Governor acts on the advice of their Ministers. The Governor’s primary task is to perform the Sovereign’s constitutional duties on their behalf, acting within the principles of parliamentary democracy and responsible government as a symbol of stable government and nonpartisan safeguard against the abuse of power. The Governor represents NSW at special occasions like ceremonies or visits by foreign Heads of State.

They will visit various regions and engage in what they have to offer including a tour of Durotank, a leading manufacturer of bulk fuel storage tanks, before joining young people involved in Down the Track Youth Enterprises’ programs.
The pair will meet representatives of local patronage organisations at a community afternoon tea. They will also visit West Wyalong District Hospital and West Wyalong High School and attend a Bland Shire Council Civic Reception and a dinner held in their honour.

Their visit to Lake Cowal will include an opportunity to learn more about the work of staff and volunteers at Lake Cowal Conservation Centre and a tour of Evolution Cowal Gold Operations.
Before they head to Junee, they will tour Coolamon Cheese, with representatives from the Junee community, before meeting with Junee Shire councillors.
After that it is off to Wagga with young basketball athletes from the Southern Sports Academy.

Appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1989, in 1993 she was made a judge the Federal Court of Australia, the first woman to sit exclusively in that Court. In 1996, she achieved the distinction of being the first woman appointed to the New South Wales Court of Appeal and, subsequently, as the first woman to be appointed as its President. She served, on a number of occasions, as Administrator of the Government of the State of New South Wales. She was made a Companion of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day Honours List on 26 January 2020 for “eminent service to the people of New South Wales, particularly through leadership roles in the judiciary, and as a mentor of young women lawyers”.
