Cam Hart Metropolitan Driver of the Year

Junee harness racing driver Cameron Hart, was crowned 2024 Metropolitan Driver of the Year on March 1 at Menangle Country Club during Harness Racing NSW’s annual award ceremony. This comes after he made history on Saturday night by becoming the first back-to-back winner of one of harness racings’ biggest events, the $250,000 Chariots of Fire.

Hart won last year’s Chariots Of Fire with Frankie Ferocious. Hart partnered Bay Of Biscay in the $250,000 race for four-year-olds, which celebrated its 30th anniversary.

Hart told Harness Racing NSW before the race, “It would be lovely to go back-to-back and Bay Of Biscay does look the one to beat.”

They were drawn inside a few of the main dangers and were pleased to see that. Hart had a great book of drives and admitted he was excited to be turning up on such an important night with a good shot at winning some top-class races. Bay Of Biscay will now qualify for a start in the Miracle Mile.

Following yet another incredible season Swayzee (also driven by Hart) has been crowned the 2024 New South Wales Horse of the Year at the Gallagher Harness Racing NSW Annual Awards function at Menangle Country Club.

Solidifying his place as one of the most outstanding horses in the state’s racing history, this prestigious honour comes after an exceptional season filled with impressive wins and remarkable performances, leaving racing fans and experts alike in awe of Swayzee’s remarkable talent and consistency on the track.

Determined by a voting panel of harness racing media identities, Swayzee received most of the votes over his equine rivals to defend his NSW Horse of the Year title from 2023.

During the 2024 season, Swayzee had 10 starts for seven wins, including the NZ Cup, and three minor placings, earning prizemoney of $913,879.

Votes for Swayzee also saw him secure the KS Black & Co NSW Aged Entire/Gelding of the Year and NSW Aged Horse of the Year categories.

The Board of Harness Racing NSW would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the connections of the equine winners and their achievements last season and the participants, in what was another notable season for NSW.
