On May 12, it was announced that LakeRoad Vet on Broadway Street in Junee is now permanently closed for in-clinic appointments with the premises currently on the market to be sold. They will still operate from Wagga, however will still be serving the town in a number of different ways.
Lake Road Vet said this decision has not been made lightly and is not unlike many others in the veterinary industry facing nationwide staff shortages and a tough economic climate. The building operated for two years in town before closing its doors. They can still offer services from their Wagga premises, however: house calls, pick ups and drop offs, free Thursday deliveries for medication and food orders, mobile services for vaccinations, and access to their full hospital services in Wagga.
The service still said this isn’t goodbye forever as they genuinely hope to return their services to Junee one day. Until then, we’re proud to continue caring for your pets in new and flexible ways.
Jess Keogh worked for the Junee premises, now working in Wagga, and explained in more detail what services are on offer.
“We can do house calls, whether that’s emergency house calls or routine vaccinations and things. We can also do pick ups and drop offs,” she said. “The building is up for sale and we can’t really justify buying the building. It’s a tough time for everyone. The main reason is that we are no longer going to be able to lease it.
“We want to make the service more available for rural towns and make sure that everyone has the opportunity to have vet services wherever they are.
“We are really grateful for everyone that has come down to us and stayed loyal, but we’re not going anywhere in terms of servicing the town.
“We are getting a lot of house calls and things for Junee, a lot of Junee residents are adapting really well to our nurse pickup and drop-offs. It’s good to see them being used.
“We are sad that we can’t stay out there, as we did have a lot of people walk in for appointments and stuff, so it wasn’t an easy decision.”
