Beginning with a reunion on Saturday, 27th September at the Athenium and continuing into a special event on the 30th, the Junee District Co-op has celebrated its 100th year in the township.
On Tuesday the 30th September, Junee IGA gave back to the community by conducting the 2-minute grocery grab, an activity won by Natalie Phillips at a local fundraising event.
There were also tastings and plenty of jaw-dropping specials for the day.
Shane Willis, Manager of the Junee IGA, spoke to the Junee Independent about the milestone and how the two events went.
“On Saturday night, we had about 180 people attend. It was a really good night. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We had a reminisce, some old stories and catch up, so very enjoyable indeed,”he said.
“Tuesday was fantastic, absolutely unbelievable. For the amount of support that came in from the town, the place was packed. It was really nice to get so much representation from the community.
“One hundred years is along time for anything, so the staff are beyond chuffed that they have kept it running in Junee for this long.
“We are here to give back to the community. We are not here to make thousands of dollars. It’s all about looking after the town of Junee and supporting every sort of business, charity events, and sporting clubs. It was really nice to see that everyone took it on board and came and helped us celebrate.
“We had some taste testing. People were able to come and taste some different products.We had the Rural Fire Brigade out the front. They were doing the barbecue.
“Local MPs Michael McCormack and Steph Cooke were in attendance.
“We had speeches, cutting of the cake. Kids were given showbags. It was a really enjoyable day.
“It was really a day for the entire community.Yes, it was about us, but it was also about the community.
“I want to thank everybody, the support from the board and the staff, for two weeks it has been very, very busy, and I am really appreciative of the work that they have all put in.
“A lot of outside hours of work were put in leading up to the day that it was.
“Thanks also to the community for backing us and coming down and showing us support.”
