For some groups, October is a month where things begin to wrap up and calm down. For others, it’s the busiest time of the year, and it looks like that’s the case for Junee Can Assist, who has a full calendar for the coming month.
Fiona Rynehart, Can Assist Junee President, gave the Junee Independent a rundown of what’s to come.
“We are doing the catering out at Illabo Show, which is on the 11th of October, and on the 12th of October, we are having a thank you day,” she said. “It is our anniversary, and we are going to open up at the Bowling Club from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm. There will be a sausage sizzle, barefoot bowls, face painting, things that the kids can play on, icecream and things like that, and that will be at no cost to the community.
“We are just having a thank you day to give back to the community because they have given us so much over the years.
“We do have people from Can Assist also going out to the Wagga race day, and they’re assisting CanAssist in Wagga and Lillier Lodge.
“We have groups of people from Junee that will be going to it also. “Then we have got catering at the Junee Show, which is doing the judges’ catering on the Friday, and then we do the Saturday, and then in November we’ve got the charity golf day.
“Then we are going to help out with the barbecue at Christmas on Broadway.
“Next year is the poker run, which has just had the date announced. We will start selling raffle tickets for the poker run at the Illabo Show.
“We’ve mixed the prize up a bit this year for the poker run. It is either $1,500 flights for first prize, like we normally have, or $1,500 fuel voucher, so you can have either one.
“We thought that with so many people travelling, they would probably like a fuel voucher.
“We also have the Coolamon Branch up and running, and it is called Canola Way Can Assist. “Their president is Megan, and they’re doing a great job. They’re trying to get organised with fundraisers and get things going over there. Graham and I went to a meeting recently, and they’ve got so many ideas.
“They’ve got quite a lot of people on the committee, which is absolutely wonderful.
“We’ve had a lot of clients on our books in the last couple of months, but hopefully it might slow down; but we are all doing very well.”
