The 1st Junee Scouts returned last week on Tuesday and are looking forward to a jam-packed calendar with exciting activities planned for each of the troops.
The Scouts and Venturers meet on Tuesdays, 7:00pm – 8:30pm, while the Cubs meet on Thursdays, 6:00pm-7:30pm.
If your child is interested in giving Scouts a try, Scouts offer a 4-week trial to all new members. Scouts are 12 years and up, and Cubs are from 8 to 12 years of age.
Kiri Clemson of the Scouts said it was a great time to hop on, as they have plenty to look forward to this year.
“We’ve got an air flight camp coming up in a few weeks, which is where Sydney comes down with their airplanes and takes the kids up for a fly around Tumut. It’s going to be so much fun. Everyone was extremely excited to get back into it,” she said.
“We have our annual Kub Kar Rally coming up at Junee High School in August.
“We have the camps that we do within our group; there are other things regional that are in talk, but we’re not too sure about them just yet.
“We are always looking for people to join. Come and enjoy the adventure. No two weeks are the same. Meet new people, meet new friends. Have fun.
“The Scouts have got Mud Mayhem Camp coming up in the next few weeks, too. Lots of water, lots of mud, lots of jungle gyms that they make themselves.
“Feel free, drop in, come and see us on a Tuesday or Thursday and just have a day and see if you like it, and see if the kids enjoy it. Start up on a trial run.
“If somebody did want to register, they go on to the Scout NSW website, or we do have it on our Facebook page with a link leading them to the website.”
Last year, the Scouts faced a major setback when their Scout Shed was robbed in the middle of the night, leaving them without much of what they needed.
The community has since, however, been more than supportive and helpful.
“One community member donated $600, as they used to be a scout leader. We have ordered six new tents using the money donated to us. The Illabo Country Music Stampede donated some eskies and gazebos because they’re no longer around. They had the equipment sitting there. A lot of people in the community donated eskies and just lots of little things that we really needed.”
