It’s been no secret that Junee is currently dealing with a rabbit infestation. This has affected much of the area, with Old Junee Cemetery littered with rabbit holes, and farmers dealing with hungry rabbits gorging on their crops – in farms already hurt by a global crisis.
Mayor Bob Callow told Councillors on Tuesday that he had raised this issue with Cootamundra Member, Steph Cooke.
“Lloyd Hart and I attended the Mayoral Summit conducted by Steph Cooke at Harden. The summit is a key ingredient in keeping the Shadow Minister abreast of the issues that affect the LGA’s in her electorate. It was a time to reiterate to Minister Moriarty the need for urgent intervention in our rabbit infestation issue and seek her assistance in funding, but also with the Federal Government, returning funding to the CSIRO to enable them to continue progressing a biological answer,” he said.
“We also had a briefing with the Minister for Police and Supt. Spliet from Wagga command. Many questions were put to the regarding the new gun laws.”
Callow continued to recap the month from Council’s point of view.
“Thank you, Councillors Halliburton, Clinton and Mr Hart, for attending the Seniors Week dinner. I hear that it was a most enjoyable event. Thanks again Councillors for your diligence during the GM recruitment process; a rather harrowing time.
“With Easter almost upon us, I hope you all can enjoy a relaxing, peaceful time with family and friends. [Last meeting was] also the last meeting for Mrs Sharryn Sweeney, who retires on Wednesday. Sharryn has been the most wonderful assistant and has provided me with the greatest amount of help. I wish her the very best in her retirement. Councillors, please wish her well personally.
