Junee Golf Club are holding a Mental Awareness Day on Saturday, 14th March, for which they are still seeking volunteers.
Junee Golf Club is asking if Members’ Carts are not being used during that day, as they are looking for anyone who can volunteer their cart, as presently the Club is requiring 4 more carts on the day. Any carts that can be rented out will help.
On the Friday before the event, the Golf Club are looking for volunteers to put up tents, generally assist on the day, as they are expecting approximately 130 players on the day, with many sponsors involved in playing or supporting the mental health awareness day.
Rex Parks, President of the Junee Golf Club, said, “We’ve got a guy who’s been working at other golf clubs, he’s put it to the club to have this Mental Awareness Day, and the club is supporting that. We’ve got about 130 players on the day. We’re having a four-person Ambrose.
“A lot of the sponsors have come forward to support the day. There are about 25 sponsors. That’s really heartening because it is a very good cause. Hardly any family is not affected by a mental situation, so the community is happy to help.
“We’re eating off at a shotgun start. Breakfast from 8:00 am, and we’re teeing off at 9:30 am. There’s lunch afterwards, and we’re charging $50 a head. A greater percentage of that goes to the mental awareness appeal.
We are still looking for volunteers on Friday to help set up. Anybody who wants to put their hand up to give us a hand with that many players, it would be really advantageous if they could give a couple of hours. That would be really good.”
Junee Golf Club last week finished up their first Club Challenge with the following results.
A Grade – Bailey Willis 72 nett 69
B Grade – Harry Ross 85 nett 70
C Grade – Joe Gregor 96 nett 67
A Grade runner-up – Clarry Ridley 82 nett 71
B Grade runner-up – Andy Blanchard 84 nett 71.
C Grade runner-up – Robert Jarvis 95 nett 70.

There were 33 competitors on the day. Stroke was the competition of the day.
“The Club Challenge was very good. It was well supported, we had nearly 40 players, so that was really good, which is a big turnout for us, normally we get 25 to 30, so we had some extras there.
“Later in the year, we have our championships and all that sort of thing. But once we get through the mental awareness day, then we’re coming into winter. We don’t have many majors on during the winter.”
