The beloved Junee Reefs Ivor Hall is celebrating its Centenary on March 28 from 2:00pm with a number of things planned. The Hall is inviting all past and present families, along with community members, to celebrate the 100-year milestone.
There will be formal presentations, unveiling of plaques and a time capsule burial, cake cutting, memorabilia displays, music, children’s activities and books and wine glasses available for purchase.

Margaret Drum, an organiser of the event, said, “The hall was actually opened on the 24th of March, 1926, but we’re holding our celebrations on Saturday the 28th. Visitors will register and sign the visitors’ book, and check out the memorabilia that will be on display in the hall.
“Afternoon tea will be available during this time in the supper room.
“At 4:00pm the official part of the day will occur, and Steph Cooke will give an address, and we will have the unveiling of the plaque. We never actually had an opening plaque, so we’ve got an opening plaque and a centenary plaque to unveil, and that will be done by some locals whose families have been in the district all this time. Then there will be the cutting of the centenary cake, and also a time capsule.
“We are asking people who wish to contribute to the time capsule to bring along any bits and pieces, information, and photos along with them and put it in the time capsule then after the official part we will have some children’s activities and these will be based on the games that they played back in about the time of the opening of the hall.
“We will have a barbecue, and tea will be available at about 6:00 pm. There will also be a display of agricultural machinery used throughout the ages.
“The Junee Reefs Hall is the meeting place of all our organisations and functions. Many local weddings, 21st parties, and gatherings are held at the Junee Reefs Hall.
“We’re a non-profit organisation, so any maintenance that is done is through grants and voluntary labour. We have a very active community who put their time into keeping the hall well-maintained. We also allow it to be hired out for functions by people outside our local district. It’s a real gathering place.
“For those who have had any connection at all with the hall or any interest in the Junee Reefs district, we have put out a booklet. It’s still in print, and it covers the early days, such as the gold mines. The official opening has a segment there on the 50 years celebrations, and it covers a bit of history on people who still live in the district today, who are still on the farms and who owned those farms in previous times. That will be available to be purchased on the day.”
