On March 16, Junee Junior Diesels will be holding a Come and Try Day at Loftus Oval from 10:00 am. Afterwards will be a season launch at the Commercial Hotel from 12:30pm.
Mitch Sweeney, U10’s Tackle coach, said, “It’s something we’ve done over the past few years. It’s an opportunity, first and foremost, to get the kids down to the footy fields and doing some activities that are going to be supported by NRL development.
“It’s also a good opportunity to meet some of the coaches who are available on the day. It’s also an opportunity to sort of officially launch our season as well. Whilst primarily we are going to be down there to make sure the kids can get a footy in their hand and have a bit of fun and get back into the swing of the footy season, it will also be an opportunity to introduce some of the parents and the kids to coaches and committee members and then we will finish off the Come and Try Day with the season launch back at one of our sponsors.
“These events have been very popular in the past. It is a really good opportunity for not only kids who have played before, but also importantly for kids and parents who are thinking about playing rugby league. It’s also a really good opportunity for them to come down and, as the name suggests, just come and try, give it a go. There’ll be plenty of fun activities for the kids.
“It won’t be too formal, but also on the day we’re going to have a bit of a fun game with parents and coaches versus kids as well, just a game of league tag to mix it up a little bit. That’s what it’s really about. It’s more just to get a footy in the kids’ hands and have a bit of fun.
“For those who are considering playing rugby league, come down and just give it a go, and hopefully they enjoy it, and they can stick around for the season.
“Registrations are looking really good. The season starts a little bit later this year, so officially it doesn’t kick off until after Easter, on the 18th of April.
“It is really early stages, we’ve definitely got positive signs coming through in the amount of registrations we’ve got. Really pleasingly, we are seeing some good numbers in our older age groups as well, which is really good to see. We are really pleased with where things are at.
“We will start to see a lot more registrations start to roll in, obviously, after this weekend, but once training kicks off in earnest, which it is starting to now, but a few teams will announce when training kicks off, probably this weekend, and that will probably start again in earnest from next week. We start to see a lot more regos start rolling once’s training activities start.
“We are really pleased with where things are at the moment in terms of registrations, and also general involvement with the club as well is awesome in terms of the volunteer base. We’ve got a really good committee again this year, with good numbers on the committee.
“In terms of coaches, we’ve got some coaches that have been part of the club for a long period of time, obviously, back on board this year, but we’re also starting to see some new coaches starting to come on board as well, which is really, really awesome to see.”
