Junee Netball will hit the court for the year on May 2, which means Junee Netball Club are entering the final stages of the pre-season process as the date approaches.
President of the club, Jess Wood, said training starts on April 23.
“We have six teams registered. It’s looking like a really promising season. We have got 47 players this year, ranging from 7 to 47,” she said.
“We had about 26 kids attend the free come and try day. It’s been a four-week program at the Rec Centre, and out of that, we got a few registrations, but the greatest thing was that there was lots of involvement from kids who traditionally choose other sports, but they came and played with their friends, and that was a really wonderful thing to see happening.
“This week, we have joined up with Netball NSW and the Rec Centre to put on a Netball Skills Development Clinic. That’s something that Junee hasn’t had for a long time, so offering that for the girls is great.
“It is shaping up really well.”
Jess took over from the previous President, Robert Vergano and is looking forward to her first year at the helm.
“I am learning a lot along the way. Rob and the committee have done such a great job keeping it going for all those years, and they left it in a really great position. Taking it on and doing our very best is what we’ve done, and we’ve had lots of support from some new people putting their hands up, saying, yes, we’ll be a part of it, which is wonderful. There are really good people involved this year.
“Our women’s team could use more members, they’re playing C reserve grade and would be happy to have a couple more players to help those ladies out, and the Under 9s. If there were a couple of little ones interested, there are some spots there. The place we are the shortest is the umpires. The club has offered to cover costs for accreditation. If somebody wants to go and get their umpires
accreditation, the club will reimburse them for the cost associated with doing that to try and
incentivise that.
