On Saturday at The Hanger, the Marrar Bombers bounced back after a string of early season losses with a huge win against CSU 92.14.8 – 19.2.7.
Marrar hit it out of the park the second the starting siren hit and just kept piling on the points again and again to put a spark back in a Club who have had a rocky start.
Sam Turner of the Marrar Bombers said it was easily the best performance of the year.
“In other games, even games that we’ve won, we’ve shown up playing a different sort of footy, but we stepped it up for the full four quarters on the weekend, and it was good to see,” he said.
“They really came out of the blocks hard. We were kicking into a bit of a breeze in the first quarter, and we kicked five goals into the breeze, which just set it up for the win.
“We had them a bit shell-shocked to begin with. We came out with a lot of intensity, and everything seemed to click in that first quarter, which was good.
“Ben Rickard had his best game for the club so far. He could have kicked five or six goals if he was a little bit more accurate. He had a really big performance. Matty Rynehart has gone to another level this year. He’s been really good. He’s always shown glimpses of this potential, but he’s doing it consistently now. He’s a really big threat up in the forwards.
“He’s in that conversation for best player now already. What he’s doing in the forward line, someone with his body type, he just reads the ball so well, and he’s such a good mark for someone his size. He’s a really good kicker, and he’s great on the mark. He’s an absolute asset for us.
“With the assistant coach and our full forward being out injured, he’s carrying the load forward at the moment, and he’s doing a great job.
“We are playing Barellan this week, which is always a tough road trip. They always grow extra pairs of legs when they’re playing at home. If we can win this, the competition is tight enough that we can lock in a good place for the rest of the comp.”
The Bombers play Barellan at Barellan starting at 2:10pm.
