The Junee Jaguars played Tolland Football Club in Tolland on Sunday, which resulted in a 4 – 4 draw. The Jaguars were up for a majority of the game, but a late comeback by Tolland and a last minute goal resulted in a stalemate.
Player of the match was Adrian Merrigan.
Coach Lochlan Phillipse had to step in as the goalkeeper during the game after an unfortunate injury. Despite this, he said Junee were going great for most of the game.
“It was an improvement. We had a 2-0 lead, and then they got back to 2-1 just before halftime,” he said.
“We had a 4-3 lead in the later stages, and they only scored that last goal in the last minute to actually tie it up, which was a bit frustrating, but it happens. We had our goalkeeper out, so I had to goal keep instead, which is not something I do much of.
“We are working on critical moments with our defence. There are a few little mistakes the opponent can use to sneak through and score goals. Seems to happen most weeks, but mainly we’re pretty solid; it’s about fixing a couple of little errors here and there.
“Adrian Merrigan was our standout. He doesn’t usually play for third grade, and he came in and scored three goals.
“Quillerman Ximenes had a really good game as well.
“This week we’ve got Cootamundra Blue as there are two Cootamundra teams.
“We are preparing pretty similarly to how we normally would. We have our two training sessions and keep working on the things that are not working in the games. We’re doing a bit more on attacking. Working out how to score some more goals.
“It is going to be a home game, so if we can get the support down there, that would be great. The game is 2:15pm on Sunday afternoon.”
