The Junee Scouts have had a busy year this year, and have now finished up a Wee Jasper camp this week, but that’s not all for the Scouts and Cubs as they look to the second half of the year.
Scout Leader, Kiri Clemson, said, “I don’t think they’ve had any camps, but they have a camp coming up this weekend in Junee, an overnight camp at the Junee Showground.
“We were in Wee Jasper, we’ve just had our camp with the Venturers to do abseiling and caving, and the kids had an absolute blast out there.
“We have had $500 donated to us from the Junee Ex-Services Club to help with the costs for our kitchen, as we desperately need a new kitchen.
“We’ve also had $500 donated from the Poker Run for doing the gate.
“We also have another major fundraiser that we’re trying to get organised to help pay for our kids to go to the 2028 Jamboree that’s coming up. It is fantastic for the kids to go, because they only come around once every 3 years. That is our next major fundraiser.
“People can look at our webpage and our Facebook group for our fundraisers, and buy a raffle ticket. Donations are always welcome as well.
“Look out for any fundraisers or get in touch with us for any donations that they may like to contribute, even if new kids want to come down, have a look and see what we’ve got going on. We always want new members.
“Some are new to Scouts; they have come up from Cubs to Scouts, so we are focusing a lot on back to basics, basic construction, basic camps, starting from the beginning, and they are all really engaged. They’re loving learning new things. We do have a 10 kilometre walk coming up in 2 weeks, which was their idea to hike from Junee to Old Junee stock reserve. If you see a bunch of kids running around Junee, that is what we are doing, preparing for that.
“They are amazing kids; they keep us on our toes.
“They are doing everything that they want to do and learning, and we are learning alongside them as well. It’s great to see them improve and grow.
“A huge shout-out to the community for supporting everything that we do. Without the donations and the fundraising and the community support, we wouldn’t be able to do a lot of the stuff that we do.”
