Junee took out the Rick Keast Memorial Shield on Saturday at Laurie Daley Oval with a 48 – 4 win. It was an outstanding victory for the Diesels coming off the long weekend bye.
President of the Club, David Holt, said it was a fantastic game to witness.
“It was a good game. First grade players played a good game from start to finish. They were on the job, that’s for sure.”
Holt said it was good to get the Rick Keast Memorial Shield.
“It does mean a lot to us and to Brothers as well. Rick was a great bloke. He was an inspiration. He was a great club person. He loved the Diesels, so we carry on in his memory and help out others that are suffering from the same thing that Rick went through.
“We do a charity auction there with the jumpers and the proceeds of that charity auction go to all various groups. If there’s members of the Diesels family that are doing it a bit tough, whether it be cancer or something else that’s going on in life and you can recognise that they’re doing it a bit tough and provide a bit of assistance there.
“Also, we donate a bit to the Mark Hughes Foundation and get behind that, to support that as well. We’ve got a couple of different teams from the Diesels that are actually doing the Mark Hughes Foundation Walk.
“The Reserves played alright. Probably too many numbers impeded them a bit there, but too many numbers is a good problem to have. They played a good game and unfortunately they didn’t get away with the win.
“They did score late in the game and had the chance to draw the scores level, but unfortunately the goal kick went a little bit wide.
“The girls tackle came up against Brothers Estella Storm side, which is a crackerjack side, they have been since the start of the women’s competition. They’re the benchmark and our girls can hold their heads high. 10-8 ended up being the final score. It was a very close match, very competitive match. Evenly matched, unfortunately our girls fell just a little bit short.
“The League Tag was very much the same story. The Brothers League Tag side is a very good side.
“Once again, those girls can hold their heads high. Considering Brothers League Tag have put some massive scores on some of their opposition, our girls came away pretty well.”
