When Marrar originally faced the Temora Kangaroos in Round 1, it resulted in a crushing defeat for the Bombers that added some unwanted turbulence to the early season.
Now the Roos and Bombers have come face to face again at Langtry Oval on Saturday, which had the Bombers retaliate with a 14.6.90 – 14.5.89 win in their second bout of 2026.
The Bombers were playing catch-up with Temora all game, but were able to close the gap more and more with every passing minute, before completely overcoming them right before the final siren.
Sam Turner of Marrar said that it proves the Bombers are quickly turning around early-year woes.
“We had a big crowd there watching on Saturday as we were playing for Parkinson’s Awareness round, which is a pretty big round for us. We’ve got a few key members of our club who are currently battling this disease, so to get the win on a round like this was a really big moment for our club,” he said.
“It was our pressure in the end. We have fared pretty well in close games this year, so the guys have a never say die attitude. They know that even when it gets late in the game, they know that we’re only a couple of kicks away from being back in it.
“They seem to never really give up. They never throw the towel in, and a couple of big clearances and a couple of big goals and we got the win.
“Matty Rynehart had another good game. He was huge. He was marking anything that came near him, and he kicked very straight all day, and to kick that winning goal with not long to go was a lot of pressure on a young man’s shoulders, and you wouldn’t have known, as he just went back calm as a cucumber and slotted straight through the middle and really enjoyed it as well.
“We have got the North Wagga Saints up this week, which will be another huge game for us. They’re travelling pretty well, so hopefully we can bring the same form that we had on the weekend into this game as well.”
It was Parkinson’s Awareness round, which was important for the Bombers.
“Unfortunately, we’ve got a couple of people who are heavily involved with our club and have done a lot of work for us over the years, and they are currently battling Parkinson’s disease. We wore some special socks for the day, and we had a raffle, auctioned a signed Swan’s jersey that night and raised a lot of money and also a lot of awareness around the disease. It was pretty special for those who have been affected by it to show that as a community, we all care and we’re all willing to try and do our little bit to help out any way we can.”
