After a fantastic underdog victory against Temora, the Marrar Bombers have stumbled against North Wagga Saints in terrible conditions on Saturday, losing 7.10.52 – 5.5.35 at Langtry Oval.
The first quarter was a shocker for Marrar as they failed to get a single point on the board, allowing North Wagga to build up a comfortable lead by the time the second quarter started.
The Bombers charged up a bit before half-time, but were still playing a game of catch up in muddy weather and let the Saints get the better of them before the end of the game.
Sam Turner says the weather isn’t an excuse, but the boys are keen to bounce back.
“It was a horrible day for footy. It was rain all day and it didn’t make much of a spectacle, but they handled the conditions a bit better than us and we got off to a horrible start. We couldn’t quite peg them back once we got going. We have got to move on from that, and try and focus on this week now.
“The weather was shocking. It was not quite a day for footy or netball, really. Both teams have to play in it and they, especially early, they definitely handled it better than we did.
“We have got to do all the right recovery this week. The Rock are travelling pretty well also. It’s a massive game in terms of the positioning on the ladder. Everything’s so tight. If we lose this week we could go from second to potentially 5th or 6th in the space of two weeks. It is a massively important game for us and hopefully we get a little bit of better weather and we can turn up ready to go.
“It is always a bit frustrating to lose at home. We pride ourselves on not losing too many at home, so we will need to just regroup and bounce back as strong as we can.
“We’ve got some very loyal supporters who still brave the elements and they turn up every week, rain, hail or shine. We are very grateful for them and hopefully we get some better weather for them in the future.”
The Rock Yerong Creek (TRYC) plays Marrar at Victoria Park on Sunday from 2:10 pm.
