Photographic evidence of the machine close to the road when the arm was not swinging into traffic, when it did swing onto the roadway no traffic control was allegedly present.
TFNSW is under the microscope again after allegations have been made about the organisations’ poor culture, lack of work ethic and accountability after a family of five were nearly met with what could have been a catastrophic accident on the Burley Griffin Way near Binalong in April.
It’s alleged, Contractors working on behalf of TFNSW did not have the required traffic control measures in place to warn motorists on the busy road ahead that slashing with an excavator was occurring.
A family were nearly hit by the slashing apparatus as it swivelled its head on to the roadside and spun around nearly colliding with the family. Evidence has been supplied to the Independent highlighting how close the machine was operating to the Arterial road without a guidance vehicle.
The family suffered shock at the near miss with a small child still traumatised at the site of an excavator. TFNSW did nothing to prevent any further issues on the day, with other motorist reporting that the work continued unabated.
A member of the family said, “I contacted TFNSW and they were not interested in helping, sending someone out to investigate or take me seriously. Maybe they think they can just brush a concerned mother aside. It happens far too often on these roads. There’s too much traffic control making people late with contractors making a fortune or then it’s nearly non existent traffic control. The heads of these organisations need to provide the data on when a complaint comes in and who investigates it and what the outcome is. TFNSW is the Wild West and the cowboys are running the roads. Speed limits are being dropped on roads because they are in such poor condition. The regional offices are hopeless. You ring with legitimate safety complaints and no one investigates it. It’s maladministration and corruption that could kill someone. People want to travel the roads safely and get home at the end of the day. TFNSW are habitual offenders. They don’t enforce the road requirements and they think they can get away with it.”

TFNSW came under scrutiny for the snails’ pace they constructed the Wallendbeen Bridge but more recently for the millions of dollars of corrupt payments which went to an employee.
Images of cash-filled envelopes and spreadsheets appearing to detail how money was divided in an alleged kickbacks agreement were shown at the corruption watchdog, where a former NSW transport official said he received improper payments from roadworks contractors.
A 38-year old man appeared before ICAC in 2025 amid allegations he received $11.5 million under dodgy deals with contractors while working for Transport for NSW between 2012 and 2024.
A local Councillor who has stated they have whistleblown on the organisation before told the Independent, “it’s as bad as it gets, they even make you pay for the sausages at their barbecues.”
