Fans at Victoria Park were on the edge of their seat during the TRYC Magpies and Bombers game that saw Marrar come out with a respectable win in a fantastic last quarter, 10.12.72 – 6.10.46.
While the Bombers had a good start, the Magpies were close on their tail, eventually overtaking them after half-time, but in the final quarter, Marrar put on a stunning performance and won the match.
Sam Turner of the Club said it was good to win such a tight game.
“It was a pretty tight tussle for the whole day. Kicking straight definitely helped. We were kicking a lot of points and missing some easy shots, and so were they, but in that last quarter, we kicked a lot straighter, which definitely helps.
“The whole day was pretty good. TRYC had same-day footy, so they had all their juniors playing Wagga Swans, and we have a long connection with the Wagga Swans, which is great. A lot of Marrar people are involved with the Wagga Swans, so it was a really big day. It would have been a really big day for The Rock, and the weather was great.
“It was pretty hard to find a park when you’re coming into the ground. It was choc-a-block. It was good to see a lot of people there.
“Caleb Walker had 10 intercept marks for the game, which is insane. The level that he’s playing at for such a young guy. In my opinion, he’s the best player in the comp, and he’s playing to that level at the moment. He had an absolute blinder.
“We also got a new full forward who came to the club this week, and he definitely helped out. He kicked 6 goals, 5, and one out on the full. He had 12 shots on goal; sometimes he was missing them, but he was very dominant. To have one player down back and one player up forward as dominant as we were was definitely one of the reasons why we came away with the victory.
“Second grade, they just went down, but our A grade netball had a good win and A reserve girls actually had their first win for the year, which they were very excited about. They got the monkey off their back. If it had been a Saturday, I think the girls would have really enjoyed themselves Saturday night, but since it was a school night on Sunday night, they behaved in the end. It was very exciting for them, and we are a football and netball club, so when the netballers are flying, the club’s usually flying as well, so it is good to see them getting a few wins.”

Marrar play Coleambally on Saturday at Langtry Oval starting at 2:10 pm.
