Junee has secured a $20,000 boost through the 2026/27 Regional Event Fund to support the launch of the inaugural Canola Gateway Festival, marking a major milestone for the region’s tourism offering.
The funding recognises Junee as a destination of choice for new and emerging events, backing the community’s vision to create a vibrant celebration of the Riverina’s iconic canola season.
Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, welcomed the funding, highlighting the confidence it shows in both the region and the organisers behind the festival.
“This investment recognises the strength of Junee as a place to host events that bring people together and attract visitors from across the state,” Ms Cooke said.
“It’s fantastic to see a new event like the Canola Gateway Festival supported from the outset, giving it the opportunity to grow into something truly special.”
Ms Cooke recently met with Junee Council organiser Sam Perry to mark the funding
success and promote the exciting program ahead.
The festival will take place on 29–30 August 2026 and will showcase the best of regional NSW, with live music, local food and wine, and a strong focus on community and connection.
Headline events include the Golden Gateway Concert at the Athenium Theatre and the Can Assist Yellow Luncheon at Memorial Park, which will bring locals and visitors together in celebration of the region’s produce, culture and hospitality.
Ms Cooke said launching a new event is an important step in building a strong and diverse regional events calendar.
“Inaugural events play a vital role in showcasing what our communities have to offer and creating new reasons for people to visit regional NSW,” she said.
“They help lay the foundation for long-term tourism growth while celebrating the unique identity of places like Junee.”
Ms Cooke said the festival would also deliver meaningful benefits to local businesses and the wider community.
“Events like this boost our local economy and create a real sense of pride across the community,” she said.
“This is about showcasing Junee at its very best and building something the community can enjoy and grow for years to come.”
