Marrar Bombers Jacob Knight kicked his way to success for the team on Saturday at Langtry Oval, sinking in 8 goals to lead Marrar to a 12.7.79 – 9.2.56 win against Coleambally Blues.
It was a very close battle in the first half, with Marrar leading throughout, but the Blues were only just trailing behind for the most part. This changed in the third quarter when Marrar came kicking out of the gate, putting themselves in a very comfortable lead for the rest of the game.
Best players: Jacob Knight, Zachery Brain, Joshua Staines, Macauley Armstrong, Cameron Walshe and Ben Rickard.
Sam Turner of the Club said it was a good direction for the Club as the season comes to an end.
“It was a pretty tight contest for a majority of the day, but thankfully the boys were able to kick away in the end to come away with a nice victory,” he said.
“It was a massively important win. The competition is so tight that any loss can result in moving down 2 or 3 positions on the ladder. Every week that you can bank some points is massive in terms of making the finals.
“Every week that we can come away with a victory is a good week.
“Jacob Knight got 8 goals on the day. We are very lucky to have him on the weekend as he kicked three quarters of our goals. Without him, we may not have got the job done. We are very lucky that we’ve picked him up as a midseason recruit, and he was extremely damaging all day. They didn’t seem to have an answer for him. He was definitely the match winner.
“If he can keep up his current form, he’s a really hard matchup for opposition teams as he is so good in the air, but also so good when the ball hits the ground. Being such a difficult matchup, he’s proving to be really dangerous, and if he can keep up this goal kicking form, then he should be able to hopefully lead us deep into the finals race.
“This week we play the Jets out there at their home ground, and we’ve had plenty of tight tussles with them over the years. I think they got us by a point not too long ago out there. They are a good team.
“We will really need to be on top of our game to beat them on their home deck. Hopefully, we get some good weather, and it should be a really good contest.”
Marrar play the Northern Jets at Ariah Park on July 11 at 2:10 pm.
