After an explosive round 1 win for the Diesels against Gundagai at Anzac Park, the Tigers headed to Laurie Daley Oval for a rematch on Saturday, which unfortunately resulted in an 18 – 16 loss for the Diesels.
It was a close competition throughout, with both sides securing 3 tries each. Quaider Kea, Cooper Wright and Tevita Toloi all grabbed tries for the Diesels, but Gundagai’s Corey Wilson had a better kick on the day, converting all of them while Junee’s Stuart Dunbar was only able to successfully kick 2 of 3.
President of the Club, David Holt, said it was still a good result even if it was a loss.
“Gundagai’s defence kept them in the game. I’d have to say that for 60% of the game, we were on top. It’s just those little one per cent efforts that let us down, but it was a very good game,” he said.
“Because of injuries, there have been a few changes lately, and we’re settling down again. I’m fairly confident that from here on in they will be playing a lot more consistent football.
“It wasn’t our biggest crowd, but there were still a fair few people there who came to see the event. I don’t think the weather had much of an effect on anything. It was a cold breeze, a typical day at Laurie Daley Oval.
“This week we travel to Coota. Coota have made a lot of changes in their team from week to week, so we will deal with that at training and prepare for it. Chase and Damien already have a plan for it.
“The League Tag girls had a sound win 24-6, and they have continued their good form.
“The 18s and Reserve Grade, while they were good matches to watch, the scoreline wasn’t good for us.”

Under 18’s – Charlie Sainsbury and Jack Walker.
Reserve Grade – Rhys Diggins and Josh Hackett.
First Grade – Ryan Crowder and Jaydyn Hoeta.
The Diesels play Coota on July 11 at Fisher Park in a match that could make or break both squads at this point in the season.
