After losing by a point last game, the Junee Diesels have done the exact opposite and beat Wagga Kangaroos by a point at Laurie Daley Oval. The Roos were tough from the early moments of the game, but the Diesels managed to take the lead at just the right time.
President of the Diesels, David Holt, said, “It was great to get a win on the weekend. It would have been very harsh to go down by a point two weeks in a row”.
“The penalty goal in the dying stages, just in the last couple of minutes, got us the win there.
“Kangaroos got out to a bit of a lead, but to the Diesels’ credit, they stuck with it and remained in the game. It then seemed to be going their way, but they kept their head in the game when it wasn’t and kept at the grind, and they ended up coming up with a solid win. They got themselves back out in front.
“Kangaroos evened the score up, and then kicked a field goal which put them one point in front, which was a bit hard to take, but the boys kept themselves in the game, kept going, even after that field goal.
“It goes to show that it is not over until the siren.
“Reserve grade had a very good game, tight competition between the two sides, but unfortunately, our boys went down 14-18. It was a very good game.
“Under 18s had a good game, but the Kangaroos Under 18s are a pretty classy outfit, and our boys were a little bit overwhelmed there.
“The League Tag girls dominated. They had a dominant win, which was good. It was a good day of footy.
“We are taking on Gundagai this week. We are up for a bit of a challenge there. Gundagai have had a few recruitments since we played them in round one.
“It is a home game for us at Laurie Daley Oval.”
They will play the Tigers on Saturday.
