After a Saturday of Hoy on June 20, the Junee Seniors had a Christmas in July on Tuesday. They now look forward to their AGM coming up in the months ahead.
Spokesperson of the Seniors, Barbara Guthrie, said, “It’s a bit quiet at the moment, but we are still holding our usual bingo nights. Last month, we tried a Hoy Saturday afternoon game. Hoy is a card game with 13 cards, and you have to have four people to a set. We had a successful afternoon. We had 22 people there, and we had afternoon tea.
“We had 20 games of Hoy in the day. We had played 10 in the early morning, and in the afternoon, we played another 10. We had afternoon tea, and it was a very successful day.
“We had Christmas in July at the Crossing Motel, a luncheon to celebrate. Raffles and little prizes are there for dinner. The end of the financial year’s here now, so we’re winding that all up for the end of June.
“We went to the Crossing Motel like last time, and they provided a nice baked lunch. They have all the decorations there for Christmas.
“We had little lucky door prizes, lucky seat prizes, little raffles. The lunch was absolutely beautiful.
“We’re not having our AGM meeting until about September or October. We have bingo every Monday. There are around about 12 to 16 who turn up for that on Mondays.
“We had the Mother’s Day raffle in May as well, but it’s been quiet other than that.
“July’s nearly over, so in August we will be starting our Father’s Day raffle. We haven’t decided on the prizes yet, but that’ll start in early August. We don’t have much else on other than that.
“We haven’t been going out on any trips or anything because in the wintertime, it’s just too cold to get around for older people.
“Trish Davis, our Secretary, who is way up at the top of Winton, is cleaning dinosaur bones at the moment. She’ll be back at the end of July.
“All our membership is due now to be paid for the next financial year, that’s $10, but there’s nothing else on the horizon at the moment.
“In August, we start the Father’s Day raffle, and then we’ll have the Christmas raffle coming up.”
Even with a quiet season in the winter, the Junee Seniors continue to remain busy.
