The Marrar Bombers recorded another win for the Club on Saturday with a 13.15.93 – 11.8.74 victory over the Northern Jets at Ariah Park on Saturday.
Marrar came out of the gates swinging, keeping the Jets at bay as they continued to score goal after goal. The second half told a bit of a different story when the Jets started a comeback that almost had them even the score.
A late-game resurgence from Marrar put down the prospect of a Jets’ comeback, and Marrar left the oval with a 19-point lead.
Sam Turner of the Club said it was a good win to have at this point in the season.
“We got out to a nice handy lead at halftime, but they came back at us really hard in the third quarter, and it got pretty tight, but thankfully we were able to kick a couple of sealing goals and come away with the win,” he said.
“It’s always hard to win out there at Ariah Park. They are always a much-improved side on their home soil, so it was good to come away with the win.
In that 3rd quarter, we got a little bit complacent and thought that we were going to come away with a nice 5 or 6 goal win, but they were kicking with the wind in the third quarter, and they came out with much higher intensity than ours. They were showing us up for that third quarter.
“The boys got a nice good rev up at three quarter time, and thankfully they responded to that and kicked a couple of the sealing goals to win it.
“Ben Rickard was our best on the grounds by a fair way. He had his best game for the club so far, he was playing centre half forward, but was also spending a bit of time in the middle, and it was a really hard matchup for them.
“We have East Wagga this week, so taking on the undefeated side will be a tough task. We lost a few with injury on the weekend as well, which won’t help, but we will prepare the same way and go over there and try and cause an upset.
“Second grade had a win, and our under-18s had their 1st win for the year. They were very excited, and then A grade and A Reserve netball all had wins. We were playing for the Bluebell Cup, which is a fundraiser for mental health, and its accumulated over four grades. We were lucky enough to come away with that on the day, which was good.”
Marrar take on the EWK Hawks at Gumly Gumly Oval on Saturday from 2:10 pm.
