Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Michael McCormack will travel to every State and Territory across Australia, over the next fortnight, to hear directly from Veterans, ex-service organisations, advocates and community groups about the proposed $5,000 cap on allied health services.
The nationwide listening tour will provide Veterans with an opportunity to share their experiences, concerns and recommendations, ensuring their voices are heard.
Mr McCormack said Veterans had earned the right to be listened to and respected.
“Our Veterans have made extraordinary sacrifices in service of our nation and they deserve access to the support and health care they need,” Mr McCormack said.
“This tour is about getting out into communities, sitting down face-to-face with Veterans and organisations and hearing firsthand how the proposed $5,000 allied health cap could affect them and their families.
“Rather than making decisions from Canberra, we want to hear directly from those whose lives will be affected.
“The Government refuses to listen … these Veterans need to be heard and we will do that.”
Mr McCormack said the feedback gathered would help inform future advocacy on behalf of the Veteran community.
“Veterans have stood up for Australia. It is our responsibility to stand up for them.” he said.
