Five Roundhouse Life Memberships Awarded

At the Junee Roundhouse Rail Museum AGM last week, Life Member Gail Commens surprised five very long-serving members with Life Membership. These dedicated members have helped make the Museum the showcase that it is.

While awarding these members with Life Membership at the meeting, Gail spoke about each members contribution, which has helped make the Museum the showcase that it is.

“Vincent Hollis, current Chairman, past Secretary and Board member for many, many years. Vince has been a constant and one who is here probably more than any of us. He puts the roster together, gives cheek and works inside and out like a trojan. He is a perfectionist and seems to be able to do anything.

Rita Broad, Rita is the one who comes up with the good ideas and is always working on the next thing we can do.  Treasurer many years ago and currently Treasurer again.  She has the museum at heart, and heaven help anyone who messes things up.  Thank you, Rita.

Derek Broad,  like Vince and Rita, Derek is always here and keeps things looking beautiful, especially the gardens.  He is fastidious about WH&S and makes sure all stay safe. Derek can always be called upon to help out, and like Vince, he is a perfectionist.

Ian Gray,  Ian joined the Museum way back when I was working for him at CSU. A real train lover, Ian has been our photographer, video maker and website manager.  His work on the website is better than any other I have seen, and for his dedication to our Museum, I cannot thank him enough.  The beautiful photographs he took and enlarged for us to sell for funding to paint the windows, and his making of, and payment of, the video that sold so well about rail.  Not to mention the fabulous video we show in the shower block telling not only the story of the Roundhouse but the story of Rail from its beginning in NSW.  Thank you, Ian.  Your physical presence is sadly missed here at the Roundhouse.

Noelene Milliken.  Noelene has been with us along with Ian and her writing skills first came to us with the first of her four books, ‘Fanny’.  Noelene not only wrote her four books but she paid for their printing which at the time was an absolute blessing to our Museum. Fanny was followed by Tricky, then Steam Crane 1080 and finally Spike (the Roundhouse dog). These books are not just for children but adults as well. Noelene researched long and hard, and the content is real, exciting and fun. Noelene then put her talent to taking the Museum’s Archives apart and cataloguing everything properly so that we now know where everything is and how to find things of the past so much more easily. Noelene was also our minute Secretary until she and Ian moved last year, and we miss you so much, not just for what you do but for you and Ian as such lovely people.”
