Junee Shire Welcomes New Mayor

Following the Ordinary Council Meeting held on Tuesday, 15 September, Councillors elected Councillor Pam Halliburton (pictured) as the new Mayor of the Junee Shire Council.
She will now serve as Mayor for the remainder of the current term, which will end in September 2028.

Outgoing Mayor Bob Callow will stay on as a councillor and says he’s “still got a job to do”.
“I am thankful that I’ve had the great honour of being Mayor at Junee for three years, and it was a wonderful experience,” he says.

“I am staying on as a Councillor, it’s very important. I still have a job to do, and I hold civic duties as one of the most responsible jobs people can do.
“We are a very congenial council. We get on very well.”

Junee’s new Mayor Halliburton has been in the game for 14 years and Councillor Callow says his only piece of wisdom to pass on is to listen.

“Listen to your councillors, listen to your public and your constituents, and make sure you are there for the right reason,” he says.
“I enjoyed the role. It was marvellous to represent Junee and be their spokesperson out there in the wider world with local government, and I hope Pam can do the same.”

Mayor Halliburton says she is honoured to be elected for the role, and thanks her fellow Councillors for their consideration.
As for what’s to come? She says she is keen to hit the ground running.

“I’m looking forward to continuing our important work in the tourism sector, because we have been doing a lot of important work in the sector, and I want to increase our footprint,” she says.
“I’d also like to increase our footprint in terms of attracting more light industries and businesses to town.”

As for new things she would like to explore in her position, Mayor Halliburton says she would like to explore waste.

“It’s not just Junee and the Shire, it’s the whole state and country [that is suffering],” she says.
Mayor Halliburton says she is not taking the position for granted, and extends her thanks to the number of people who reached out, urging her into the role.

“I felt the time had come for me to be able to make a positive mark on the Shire… now I need to live up to their expectations.”

Pam says she’s got big boots to fill, and thanked Councillor Callow for all of the work that he had done for Junee Shire.

“I’d like to thank Bob Callow for the work he has done and the contribution he has made as Mayor,” she says.

“I will be continuing the excellent work that he has done for the Shire and will continue on the path that the Shire is now following.”

Deputy Mayor Marie Knight was re-elected, unopposed, as Deputy Mayor and will continue serving for the remainder of the current term.
