There’s something in the water in Marrar as both the Senior Men’s First Grade and A Grade Netball teams head to the Grand Final this weekend.
Bombers Netball coach, Bridie Willis, says it’ll be a close match.
“We’re two different teams,” she says of their upcoming game against Temora.
“We’re pretty lucky to have a tall shooter to pass to, but other than that, we are pretty similar.”
One thing the girls should look out for is Temora’s formidable goal attack player, Abbey Reinhold.
“Shutting her down early would be ideal for us, but other than that, we need to be consistent for four quarters,” says Bridie.
“If we’re consistent, we shouldn’t have an issue.”
Temora finished on top of the ladder, and have been a strong opponent all season, but the Bombers (who finished in third) may be a worthy challenge for the champs.
“We did beat them by one in the first round, but then it’s been a different set of results as the next time we lost by 17,” says Bridie.
“In the qualifying final, we won by 16, so it’s been a bit up and down for both of us.
“It could go either way, depending on who’s playing well on the day.”
According to Bridie, the girls should play to their strengths.
“We did really well against them in our qualifying final with our control of the ball the whole way down the court, and our shooters shot at nearly 100 percent accuracy,” she says.
“Getting it down to them and settling the shot will be our goal again on the weekend, no rushing it.”
Uplifting each other is Bridie’s biggest piece of advice for the players, who well and truly have what it takes to snag the top spot.
“Get together,” says Bridie.
“Grand Finals are hard to come by, so getting around each other and lifting each other up is the way to go.
“We were there last year and won it, and that’s how we did. We stood together as a team and ended up winning in the last 30 seconds.”
