The 132nd Junee Show was last weekend, with huge numbers coming out to see all Junee has to offer.

Thrilled with how the day’s proceeding went, Junee Show secretary Paytra Cook said, “I was really amazed by the people who came through the gate. The amount of pavilion entries that we had and the poultry section had 200 entries, which was just amazing.”

The festivities of the day started with Michal McCormack opening the Junee show. Attractions such as a horses fun ring, a ladies lifestyle pavilion in Belling Hall, a free photo booth and a free pet show were there at the show.

The Wagga & District Highland Pipe Band played and the Aussie FMX Motocross display was a highlight for many people at the show. “We have to thank the Aussie FMX motocross people. They literally drove all night because they had to avoid flood conditions to get to us,” said Paytra.

The kids loved the sandcastle competition, which was followed by the mummy competition. The Happy Hour Duo band played before the pie eating competition and the gumboot throwing competition.

The Bushmans Relay was highly enjoyed and included contestants carrying a bag of chaff, rolling tyre, builders wheelbarrow and a bag of wool.

To top off a successful show, the crowd were treated to a grand finale fireworks display at the end of the night. Paytra said, “they were amazing. They were so good and I really think there was a bit of cloud cover and that just made them pop even more. ACT fireworks came on board which was good too.”

“The amount of cars that are parked on Laurie Daley Oval and they’re often young families that have been there during the day. They just popped back to see the fireworks. It’s so nice to see that everyone was enjoying them,” continues Paytra.

The honour of the newly renamed Young Show Woman of the year was won by local girl Brooke Harris.

With the numerous winners on the day, a full list of award winners from the show will be published next week.

High praise was given to Junee Show Society President Peter Commons, with Paytra saying “he’s an amazing president.

“We wear him out every year and he still comes back the next year and just the way he manages to pull our volunteers together and support everyone and everything we’re doing and every conversation you have with him makes you feel appreciated and makes everyone feel appreciated.”

With the Junee Show being a huge success and all the hard work into organising the show, Paytra said, “we do it for you, we do it for Junee and it’s such an amazing thing and it’s worth every minute of the work put into it. “It’s worth it when you see people enjoying it.”
