Small School Big Results

Illabo Public School have claimed three medals at NSW state level this year for the Public School Sport Association (PSSA).

Students won gold in the Small Schools Earl McGee Relay and Touch carnival, as well as obtaining a bronze in the Norm and Elizabeth Austen Small Schools Relay.

Students managed to swim an impressive 3:17 in the relay, were undefeated in the touch knockout and came first in the relay heat to place third in the final.

Swimming: Charlie Piffero, George Day, Parker Smith, Elsie Ryan.

Sport captain, Parker Smith, said it was an accomplishment he did not think was possible. “We have achieved a lot in sport this year, we are all quite surprised that such a small school could win so many medals at state level.”

Illabo’s Principal, Miss Lauren Molloy congratulates all students and teachers for their wonderful effort.

Running: Ed Muller, Parker Smith, George Day, Elsie Ryan.

“Students showed a strong dedication and commitment in all sporting events. Their efforts paid off and our school was represented with pride.”

“This was all made possible by our Sports Coordinator and Super Coach Mr Tom Crouch, his wisdom and passion really got them over the line” she said.

The Illabo P&C Association were also an integral part of this achievement. Will Hodge, representative of the P&C, said all parents were just as excited as the students.

“It was such a big effort to drive from Illabo to Sydney for all events, particularly the touch carnival. Everyone was so passionate and supportive and loved cheering them on.

“Sporting achievements this year will go down in Illabo Public’s history books, as this is a solid feat that hasn’t been done in the past 140 years the school has been running. Students are hoping for similar results in the following years but are happy to bask in the championship feeling they have created this year.

Illabo Public school is now taking enrolments for 2025.
