On Saturday, Junee’s biggest street party, Christmas on Broadway, was held. Packed with fun, food, entertainment, and huge prizes, not even the rain could stop the party from going on. It was an afternoon and evening full of festive performances, kids’ fun, markets, food and the magical Lighting of the Tree.
They had a stacked entertainment schedule, which was as fol-ows:
4:15 PM – Pacific Islander Group
4:50 PM –Preschool – Daycare
5:00 PM – SODance Junee
5:10 PM – Year K-2 – All Schools
5:20 PM – Years 3–6 – All Schools
5:30 PM – Junee High School
5:45 PM – Santa Arrived
Local artists played from 6:00PM: Gavin, Robyn, Penny, Emma and Kim.

Tony Butt said, “It’s probably the biggest event we’ve ever had, but it rained at about 5.30 pm, and numbers dwindled from there, but people stopped on and had a good night, and it ran really well. The people who stopped by really enjoyed it. The people who were there early were good, but the rain put a dampener on things.
“All the food stalls that sold out and the other market stall people stayed. There were a few that packed up and left early because they had perishables or things that didn’t like rain.
“It went off really well.
“The entertainment for the night was really good. We had all the schools do their singing at the beginning, where they all got up and had their songs, and then we had So Dance. They came on and performed their dance routines.
“Then we had a group from Junee that was four singers, and they took it in turns, and they had rock and roll dancers, and it was very entertaining and very good.
“They put in three hours of entertainment, and with a dwindling crowd, the only ones that sort of stopped long enough to watch were the ones that were undercover.
“Thank you to all the volunteers who helped on the day. I thank them for doing that. My old crew, all the Christmas on Broadway Committee that worked their butts off to try and make it all happen for them, I thanked them personally.
“It’s a big deal. It’s like we were weeks getting ready for it, and then we worked all weekend. We started setting up at 7:00am on Saturday morning. We finished at 1:00 am Sunday morning. We had to get the street open again by midnight.
“We’ve got to have dedicated people to work those hours and do that sort of work for us. I can’t do it without them.
“It’s going to happen again next year, and we are just going to try and get some more enthusiastic people who want to be involved, and if they want to be involved, they can get in touch with me.”
