The yearly Junee Charity Golf Day was held on November 2, all day, seeing many turn up to play the 4-person ambrose, raising a significant amount for Can Assist.
Rex Parkes of the Club said, “The day was a great success with some fine scores made, especially with the gale force wind blowing from the West.
Eighty players enjoyed the day whilst also competing for the Remax-sponsored Hole in One on the 10th. Ken Twaddell was the closest, finishing 1.8m behind the pin.
“Junee Golf Club would like to thank all the Club Personnel and Members for their commitment to the day. Visitors were welcomed from The Rock Golf Club, Gundagai Golf Club, Coolamon Golf Club, Wagga Country Club and social players that just wanted to have some fun.
“Thank you to the greens staff who work tirelessly to set up the course, the caretakers, Ian and Wendy, for Clubhouse preparations and drink refreshment operators, Terry and Sue, for their amazing efforts in supporting the Junee Can Assist Charity before the event and on the day.
“Thank you also to the Junee Can Assist members who worked as an excellent working team from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm to provide breakfast and lunch and all the other duties, including taking film of every golfer on the Remax Hole-in-One 10th Hole.

Ball Rundown to 59.5 nett. Raffle by Can Assist was won by Harry Ross – $100 Junee CO-OP Voucher. All Prizes were presented on the day.
Fiona Rynehart, President of Junee Can Assist, said, “They had over 80 golfers on the day, which is a great number to have, and they enjoyed our barbecue food like sausages, sandwiches and egg and bacon rolls. We were very fortunate to be able to feed quite a few people.
“We then had a raffle. Our treasurer, Graham, said that we’d raised around $1,200 for the day, so that’s great.
“This year, we have been doing a lot of things helping people with breast cancer, but we’ve had a bit of a turnaround, and we’ve had quite a few men diagnosed in town with prostate cancer. There have been new improvements and new processes that they can use with prostate cancer, and we’re now assisting quite a few men in Junee with prostate cancer, so that’s helping them get better treatments, and we can help them financially with that.
“The volunteers had a great day up there. They had lots of laughs and lots of stories going around for the day. We have a very big band of happy volunteers in Can Assist, so we are very fortunate.
“We’ve got the Junee Business and Trades Christmas on Broadway on Saturday, and we will be running the barbecue for them on Saturday, and that will keep us busy.
“Then that’s us for this year. We’re done with our catering for this year and our fundraising for this year, and then we’ll start again next year, ready for the Poker Run, which is the first weekend in February.
“Thank you again to our volunteers, and I hope they enjoyed the day up there on Saturday.”
