Junee Cricket Club, the Stallions, launched their 2025/26 T20 campaign in style with a comprehensive win over Temora Bowling Club Tigers A Grade at Burns Park on Saturday, 6 December.
After bundling Temora out for just 65 in 14.3 overs, the Stallions eased to 1/69 in 15.1 overs, sealing a nine-wicket victory that propelled them from the bottom of the table straight to third on the SWSCL A Grade ladder.
Bowlers on Fire as Temora Crumbles
Temora won the toss and elected to bat, but they were immediately under the pump from Junee’s sharp opening attack.
William McGrath kept things tight with his four overs, going for only 13 runs and picking up one wicket at an economy of 3.25, while Jamie Whiles was the early destroyer, grabbing 3 for 16 from his three overs despite sending down five wides.
The real damage came when the Charlton brothers entered the fray. Nathan Charlton claimed 2 for 25 from a full four-over spell, but it was captain Trent Charlton who stole the show, ripping through the lower order with a sensational 4 for 10 off just 3.3 overs – an economy of 2.85 that underlined his control and menace.
Temora never recovered from being 7/39 at drinks and were all out shortly after the break, with Junee’s attack conceding no no-balls and maintaining relentless pressure.
On the other side of the ledger, Temora’s bowlers fought hard on a tricky surface. Cody Lynch was the pick with 1 for 12 from four overs (including a maiden) at a superb economy of 3.00, while Josh Gillard also claimed a maiden in his wicketless four-over spell for 17 runs.
Charlie Watson was exceptionally frugal, sending down two overs for just four runs, but the Stallions’ experience told in the end.
Charlton Leads Steady, Successful Chase
Set a modest 66 for victory, skipper Trent Charlton emphasised the need to respect the target and bat with discipline.
Openers Ean Martin and Hayden Diggins did exactly that, reaching 1/20 after six overs before Diggins departed caught behind for 10. Charlton then joined Martin in a match-winning unbroken partnership. The pair took the score to 37 at the drinks break, patiently negotiating some accurate Temora bowling, including six wides from Cody Lynch, and tight spells from Watson and the Gillard brothers.
After the interval, Charlton shifted gears, striking three crisp boundaries in his unbeaten 27 from 29 balls, while Martin provided the perfect anchor with 18 not out off 44 deliveries (two fours).
The Stallions crossed the line in the 16th over without further alarm, finishing on 1/69 and underlining their all-round dominance. This emphatic result gives Junee crucial momentum heading into the final round before Christmas. They will look to carry this form into next Saturday’s home clash against Stockinbingal at Burns Park, where another strong performance could solidify their spot in the top half of the table. A thoroughly professional display from the Stallions – well led, brilliantly bowled, and clinically chased. This one will be remembered as a complete team effort.
